The Vehicle Services Unit (VSU) of the Winnipeg Police Service is responsible for the planning, allocation, life cycle and maintenance of the entire WPS fleet of over 400 vehicles, including all marked, unmarked, motorcycles, specialty, surveillance and covert vehicles. VSU started its Lean journey in 2015 and over the past 9 years has engaged in a steady pursuit of continuous improvement.

From their initial Kaizen event, VSU was able to reduce the cycle time of completing an oil change by over 18% resulting in an almost $35,000 / year savings of labour

Help us fight hunger in our community.

Harvest feeds 110,000 households per month. Harvest collects and shares over 13 million pounds of food per month. Staff and volunteers create hampers to send out to clients. Harvest supports the booking of 420 agencies.

There is a lot of work to be done to support those numbers. We’ve implemented Lean tools to support our volunteers, to maximize the time they spend with us and set them up for success.  We are also on a continuous improvement journey to create good flow for the teams who make empowered decisions to best use all the resources available to them to support families throughout the whole province.  Join us to see how impactful Lean tools are in a non-profit environment.

Manitoba Hydro - A building that breathes – 360 Portage Ave

Manitoba Hydro was determined to provide a healthy, productive, and creative workplace for our employees and the building is a world class model of energy efficiency and sustainability, while enhancing the urban environment and economy of downtown Winnipeg. The 360 Portage Ave building is the top 10 most sustainable building in the world! It’s not only beautiful on the outside, but it also packed with amazing functionalities and creative designs, such as optimized solar exposure that takes advantage of the sun’s passive warming effective on air as it rises through the south atria in the winter months and reduces thermal loss through the north side of the building; many waters feature — meant to emulate dams, fill the space with the sound flowing water and like the water feature in the atrium also has a functional purpose (humidification and dehumidification). It’s connected to downtown including the elevated walkway system, and provides street level retail activity, offering a landscaped public courtyard on its southern exposure. Manitoba Hydro is also one of the largest collectors of original artwork produced by Manitoba artists since 2008.
