Imperial Sign Corporation  - Climate Smart Case Study: How a sustainability objective led to lower costs and better product quality

DESCRIPTION

This presentation covers the more than five-year journey of an established BC signage manufacturer that transformed its operations after undertaking a third-party environmental audit.

While the initial objective had simply been to lower the company's operational carbon footprint cost effectively, a thorough examination of the company's supply chain and standard product specs through a sustainability lens resulted in numerous unexpected innovations. As a result, the company was able to simultaneously lower production costs while enhancing product quality. The carbon footprint of its products was reduced by more than half.

Attendees at this presentation will gain:

  •  a basic understanding of international standards for carbon accounting (e.g., what is meant by scope 1, scope 2 and scope 3 emissions)

  • insights into the key areas that one company was able to reduce cost and enhance product quality in manufacturing illuminated products with aluminum, steel, plastics and paints

  • an overview of environmental changes many companies can make that have a short payback period
