DARRIL WILBURN

Senior Partner, Honsha

The Myths and Contradictions That Drive the Toyota Way

Leading for improvement, creativity, and superior results

Description

In his talk, Darril Wilburn will share how Toyota’s ability to embrace contradictions has been a cornerstone of its success both in Japan and around the world. Drawing on his experience, Darril will explore key contradictions that organizations must learn to navigate to unlock their Lean potential. He will also reveal how the struggle to reconcile these complexities has led to the creation of myths about the Toyota Way—myths that oversimplify its principles into black-and-white choices. This thought-provoking session will challenge your assumptions and inspire a deeper understanding of what it truly means to pursue excellence through Lean.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

While at Toyota, Darril studied the Toyota Production System as a student of OMDD, Toyota‘s internal Sensei group. He also developed and implemented the Toyota Way 2001 at Toyota’s largest manufacturing plant in North America and worked with The Toyota Institute in Japan to implement the Toyota Business Practice (TBP), leading the global pilot of this program, as well as the North American Senior Executive sessions. As a senior partner at Honsha, he has had the opportunity to work with over 100 companies in countries such as USA, Brazil, Indonesia, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, and Lithuania among others.
